13/04/2023 Daimonji (CC) 2-1

Been a super busy week work wise, but it’s Thursday, so FAB day it is and we know we love FAB day.

Once again back to Daimonji, once again back to playing <Uzuri, Switchblade>.

List stayed the same because it felt really good last week and I haven’t had any time to test it further in between the armouries.

Round 1 Lexi, Livewire

Equipment used: <Crown of Providence>, <Fyendal’s Spring Tunic>, <Flick Knives> and <Blackteck Whisperers>

Weapon used: <Spider’s Bite>, <Nerve Scalpel>

First game against <Lexi, Livewire> using <Uzuri, Switchblade> but I’ve played against other rangers before so I went in having the game plan similar to playing against <Azalea, Ace in the Hole>, which was to block the important on-hits and present as much disruption as I can which indeed worked out for me with some luck.

Opponent won the die roll and chose to go first which was what I wanted as well. Game began with opponent putting a card into his arsenal face up with <Voltaire, Strike Twice> and then passing turn by arsenal-ing another card into his now empty arsenal slot. I didn’t get to “Mulligan” but my hand was good enough for a very disruptive turn 1.

I had <Isolate>, <Leave no Witness>, <Codex and Frailty> and a blue. So i activated my <Spider’s Bite> by pitching the blue, opponent didn’t block. I then attacked with <Isolate>, opponent blocked with 1 card and I switched in <Leave no Witness> with <Uzuri, Switchblade> ability to which opponent didn’t have any reaction so I activated my <Blackteck Whisperers> for “Go Again” and opponent took 1 damage, banishing a red from top deck and I banished his face up arrow which was also red, so I already have the <Silver Token> to buy back my boots. As a follow up, I played my <Codex of Frailty> and put my <Leave no Witness> back into my arsenal, giving my opponent a <Frailty Token> and generating a <Ponder Token> for myself. I then attacked with <Leave no Witness> to which opponent didn’t block as he values 2 cards from hand more than the 1 card in his arsenal. So he took 4 and lost his arsenal and banished a yellow card from his top deck. A very good turn 1 for dealing 5 damages, generating 3 <Silver Token> and taking 3 cards out of opponent’s next turn.

From this point onwards, opponent was not able to present much pressure  and I was able to block most of his attacks with 2 cards and on swing backs I was threatening on-hit like <Shake Down>, <Death Touch>, <Command and Conquer> and <Surgical Extraction> for maximum disruption and eventually took with W.

Out of the three new “Outsiders” tokens, <Frailty Token> is so good against <Bolt’n’ Shot> in that it cancels the +1 thereby cancelling the “Go Again”. With 3 <Sink Below> and 3 <Fate Foreseen> I was able to play around cards like <Lightning Press> and <Rain Razor> to stop the “Reloading”.

<Inertia Token> is useful too, in that it prevents any set up from the <Lexi, Livewire> player and force them to play out their hand which might be too weak to present any relevant on-hit or damage.

The match up into <Lexi, Livewire> feels slightly easier than <Azalea, Ace in the Hole> due to the fact she doesn’t have access to powerful cards like <Red in the Ledger> and <Remorseless>.

Round 2 Fai, Rising Rebellion

Equipment used: <Crown of Providence>, <Fyendal’s Spring Tunic>, <Flick Knives> and <Blackteck Whisperers>

Weapon used: <Spider’s Bite>, <Nerve Scalpel>

Once again the die hard Ninja player, and once again he hit me with a <Double Strike> turn 0!!!!

Yeah, so game started with me winning the die roll and I chose to go second because I cannot allow the Ninja player to take the first swing.

On turn 0, opponent attacked twice with <Harmonized Kodachi> and then <Double Strike> to which I blocked with a card and be amazed by how the same player can always hit me with a <Double Strike> on turn 0 every single time we face off….

All in all, I took 7 damage on turn 0 because I had a <Codex of Frailty> in hand which I didn’t want to block with, but on the bright side, I blocked with a <Leave no Witness> so I have a great target for my <Codex of Frailty>. On my draw back, I drew into my second <Leave no Witness>.

On turn 1, I activated my <Spider’s Bite> to which opponent didn’t block and took 1 damage and getting the debuff. I played out the second <Leave no Witness> that I drew to which opponent blocked with 1 card and his <Tiger Stripe Shuko> in the effort to maintain his arsenal but I had <Shred> to force through the damage and on-hit to rid his arsenal and generating 2 <Silver Token>. 2 cards for 2 cards and 1 equipment is always a good trade and I got the <Silver Token> for future buy back of my <Blackteck Whisperers>, I arsenal-ed my <Codex of Frailty> for next turn.

On his swing back, opponent was able to present damage but not so much of threatening on-hits so I took some damage for a rather good swing back with the <Codex of Frailty> in plan. I blocked with 1 card and had <Ravenous Rabble>, <Shred> a “stealth” card in hand. On the swing back, I started with <Ravenous Rabble>, flipping a red for 4 damage with “Go Again”, opponent didn’t block I followed up with <Codex of Frailty>, discarding the “Stealth” card and getting back my <Leave no Witness> and played it out, seeing opponent blocking with 2 cards, I <Shred>-ed one of them, forcing through 1 damage once again and banishing his arsenal.

After the rather sickening first couple of turns, the game became opponent attacking with 2-3 card hand and I took damage and present annoying on-hit on the swing back. Our life total were rather close until the turn I decided to use <Blackteck Whisperers> on a switched in <Death Touch> because I had my third copy of <Codex of Frailty> to bring back another <Death Touch> and playing it out with my <Fyendal’s Spring Tunic> resource for a “Rainbow” set of tokens.

From this point onward, opponent just couldn’t make his comeback and eventually lost to a <Spike with Bloodrot> played on an <Infect>.

All three of the tokens are good into <Fai, Rising Rebellion> as they disrupt him from all angles and make their game plan a lot weaker.

<Fai, Rising Rebellion> feels a lot weaker when he doesn’t have access to 5 card hand as his card value is exponentially related with the number of cards he has in hand, <Uzuri, Switchblade> feels like a great deck to pay into <Fai, Rising Rebellion>.

Round 3 Viserai, Runeblood

Equipment used: <Crown of Providence>, <Fyendal’s Spring Tunic>, <Flick Knives> and <Blackteck Whisperers>

Weapon used: <Spider’s Bite>, <Nerve Scalpel>

Having won the CF <Crow’s Nest> last week, I’m no longer eligible to win it again by shop policy, so I offered the CF to my opponent since there are only 8 players and in return I got some packs.

There isn’t much to say about this game since opponents was on the OTK plan.

I wasn’t able to push through with most of my relevant on-hit so opponent had a rather easy time in generating his <Rune Chant Token> and eventually killing me with 42 <Rune Chant Token> and a <Ninth Blade of the Blood Oath>. By the end of the game I took opponent down to 21 life, but that was far from enough.

What I could have done differently might be to attack with both weapons every turn instead of trying to punch through with <Uzuri, Switchblade> ability because opponent has like 18 “Defence Reaction”. It is a very bad match up since <Uzuri, Switchblade> excels in disruption lacks in pure damage output.

Not a 3-0, but no hard feelings losing to an OTK <Viserai, Runeblood>. Deck still feels very good in the current meta and only really struggles against the wizards since the deck is so red heavy.

So far, the only card I might change is the main deck <Cut Down to Size>, they’re really only good against aggro match ups, but a 2 for 6 is acceptable rate after all.

Let’s see if we can make it to the top table once more next week~~
